I LOVE DOORS.
Everything about them
Well, almost everything
Unbolted,
Open
Light
Heavy
Ones that resist to pressure
Smooth
Bumpy
Very well oiled ones
Ajar.. for the curious to peak through
Squeaky
Perfectly installed
Poorly fitted or badly adjusted
Slammed shut by the wind or dead still
With vibrant colours
Paint is coming off
Stern ones
Locked
ALL DOORS… or… well, almost all doors
Tiny little doors in secret passages
Or crooked ones by the cobbled path of a forgotten village
Majestic bronze ones that should stop anyone in their tracks - have you seen Hagia Sofia’s ones?
Breathtaking.
BUT ESPECIALLY THE REALLY OLD WOODEN ONES
Fascinating pieces of history
Feel them breathe!
In fact, they never stopped breathing since they were tiny trees
Time watches them crack little by little
Whilst humans behind them live and die
Incessant laughs, cries and shouts
And amongst all that, so much silence
And there I am,
On both sides
Since ever I can remember,
Always stopping to marvel at that door
Touching, caressing its bark
In wonder.
No other album of anything close to this quality will be released before the end of the year, so I can safely say this really is one of the three best albums of 2019 (Brad Mehldau's 'Finding Gabriel' & Rachel Grimes' 'The Way Forth' are the other two). Wonderful compositions, gorgeous voice, superb musicianship #simplyfabulous John Ferguson
